Granny’s Mouthwatering Adventure in the Midlands
Granny Mouse’s Country House & Spa may be an old time favorite on the Midlands Meander, but there is nothing ‘old time’ about their extraordinary culinary adventure tours for the tongue.
The Chef’s Table event at the intimate country retreat incites a sensory magic carpet ride. Following twists and turns in a rabbit warren of rooms and passageways, guests are finally seated at a pristine linen laid tableaux of glassware and tableware, each perfectly appointed for its gourmet match.
Like any great adventure, the evening starts with a treasure map. At Granny Mouse Country House & Spa, it’s more like a sketch, a drawing, a nefarious idea of a concoction that gradually takes shape under the pen and blossoms into a culinary creation on the plate…
Chef Kirstie Du Toit and Wayland Green begin with a rough sketch of what a dish might look like on a plate. Then, with what might be termed a touch of madness, the pair begin an ensemble of flavors which should NEVER, in any glutton’s understanding, be paired in the same room, let alone the same dish! Cabbage and oranges? As a gourmet dish?
Unbelievably, nuances of flavor, aroma and texture manage to come together in an explosion of taste, combining on the tongue as a mouthwatering celebration of genius!
As a final flourish of spectacular, each course is also paired with the perfect glass of refreshment.
General Manager, Sean Granger is thrilled with the outcome. Earmarking the hotel’s launch of it’s Winter Menu, the Chef’s Table event encapsulates all which the hotel is trying to do.
“We are positioning ourselves as the modern ‘go-to’ place on the Meander,” he said. “We have created a fine cellar with the exquisite cuisine to match, and of course, craft beers are now a must for our trendier city visitors.”
The landmark country hotel has always been a favorite wedding and honeymoon destination but with upgraded spa facilities, accommodation make-overs and conference room upgrades, the little country hotel has a certain modern swing.
