Delish Options for the Artisan Gourmet in Ballito
Gorgeous Durban North sisters, Rebecca and Kate Lund are making a delicious dent in the Artisan Food Market.
One hails from a Health and Beauty background, the other from a Film and Media career, and yet both are flourishing in the catering game!
Born and bred in Durban North and now residents in Salt Rock, Rebecca and Kate Lund have recently launched their latest gourmet health sensation Delish Sisters at the Litchi Orchard. What began as a passionate hobby has grown into a successful business for the pair.
“Our mother is a GREAT cook and we have always loved being in the kitchen. We began a small catering company in Durban North which we ran in the evenings while still trying to manage our ‘day jobs’,” said Kate Lund, “that didn’t work!”
“We could no longer juggle the buying and prep work with our jobs so we took the plunge and went into it full time.” Explains Rebecca.
It was a gamble that paid off. After selling their specialities (slow roasted lamb naan wraps with tzatziki, onion marmalade and baby spinach as well as decadent chocolate brownies) at various food markets around Durban, the duo took a more permanent place at the Ballito House in Ballito.
The duo soon needed more kitchen space and moved in to the Litchi Orchard.
Their latest offering, Delish Sisters, on the site of the previous Yellow Cafe, is a reflection of their passion for all foods rich in flavor and goodness.
Open for breakfast and lunch, the lunch option is a ‘Select and Weigh’ system. Patrons select from the various platters of fresh, organic salads, entree’s and a hot meal option, weigh the plate and pay accordingly.
Customers can expect to pay between R 50 and R 120, depending on their chosen quantities.
Rebecca plans her lunch menu’s around what is fresh and available that week. Many of her ingredients are brought in by Dawn at Home Grown Organic Foods, others are picked fresh from the gardens at the orchard. If brinjals are abundant, the pair will play with a host of dish options they can do with brinjals, adding or changing their dishes as they find a new, more delicious looking recipe from books or television shows.
“We’re totally addicted to the Food Channel,” says Kate. “We love trying new things and learning better ways of doing the traditional dishes.”
