BOOST FOR DURBAN BUSINESS WOMEN
DCCI COLLABORATES WITH HIRSCH’S TO HELP BOOST LOCAL BUSINESS WOMEN.
The Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry WIB forum recently met with award winning business woman, Margaret Hirsch, to discuss the importance of motivating business women in the DCCI catchment area. An agreement was reached between the two parties that will see the Margaret Hirsch Woman In Business Achiever of the Year competition become the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Margaret Hirsch Woman In Business Achiever of the Year contest.
Commenting on the collaboration, the CEO of the Durban Chamber, Dumile Cele, said ‘It gives me great pleasure to announce the partnership between the Durban Chamber and Hirsch’s. The Durban Chamber WIB Forum aims to be ‘The leader in advocating and promoting the socio-economic interests of Women’. Our WIB Forum works towards creating cohesion between women-promoting organisations creating a united voice of women in business in KZN. This partnership is an excellent example of the successes of the forum and will allow our female owned businesses a bigger platform to compete on and receive recognition for the outstanding work they are doing in eThekwini.’’
Margaret started the Woman In Business Achiever competition three years ago in each of the branches in which Hirsch operates around the country. Monthly Women in Business Networking events are held in each branch, and a WIB Achiever finalist is announced every month, culminating in an annual Gala Dinner and Awards evening to announce branch and regional winners. Margaret started the competition because she had seen how winning the awards had been so beneficial to her and Hirsch’s. “I’m very excited about this partnership with the DCCI ! As women, we tend not to be assertive enough. There are so many fantastic women out there who are not coming forward to be acknowledged for their contribution to the business world in the greater Durban area, and I would like to encourage them to come forward and enter the competition, or nominate a friend or business owner who they would like to be recognized for this award and if you think you are a successful business woman don’t be too shy to enter yourself!” she said.
Vani Moodley – Outgoing Chairman of Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry Women in Business Forum and Vice President added “This is an inspiring opportunity for the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry Women in Business Forum to partner with iconic entrepreneur Margaret Hirsch, in hosting this outstanding event that highlights and recognises successful women entrepreneurs in the Durban chapter. We believe that collaborations of this nature are integral to building, empowering and recognizing the outstanding contribution women make to the mainstream South African economy. This platform and joint venture certainly sets the tone for more women to enter into business, enter into joint ventures and establish consortia to become a stronger force and claim a larger percentage of the national and international economy. We wish the finalists every success.
