Star treatment for this year’s Weigh-Less Man and Woman of the year finalists The eight finalists who are contesting for this year’s Weigh-Less Man and Woman of the Year titles have kicked off the week of the glittering awards event at Ammazulu African Palace (Thursday 11 October) in style, jetting into Durban yesterday (Monday 8 October) for four days of star treatment. Celebrating the weight loss and showcasing the challenges that the finalists have overcome to reach their Goal Weight, the inspirational Weigh-Less Man and Woman of the Year event has been held annually since 1978. The finalists whose life-changing and inspirational achievements will be in the spot-light with this week’s Weigh-Less Man and Woman of the Year awards are (weight loss in brackets): Stephen Meyer (Cape Town, 40.6kg), Donovan Hoffman (CapeTown, 22.6kg), Nkareng Thite (Johannesburg, 20kg), Marcelle West (Cape Town, 22.4kg), Anso Roos (Vereeniging, 67.5kg), Sandra Hamilton (West Rand, 35.4kg), Andrew Smith (East Rand, 21.4kg), and Kotie Nel (East Rand, lost 42kg). Touching down at Durban King Shaka Airport yesterday morning, the finalists immediately got whisked off to Gateway where the five lady finalists got treated to a shopping spree at Ooh la la Boutique whilst the men enjoyed go-karting and ten pin bowling. Cape Town Fish Market then hosted all eight of the finalist’s for lunch before they head off for a Rickshaw Bus Tour and sundowners before retreating to a bed of gifts at their luxurious Ammazulu African Palace in Kloof, their base for the entire four days. This morning (Tuesday 9 October) saw the finalists being treated to some well-deserved pampering with mini-makeovers. Following this, the men headed off to surfing lessons at Ushaka Beach and also got outfitted with clothing sponsored by Jeep, whilst the ladies spent most of their day at professional photographer David Weeks’ studio. Bringing down the curtain on what is sure to be a memorable day for the finalists will be an intimate dinner with Weigh-Less founder and chairman Mary Holroyd at the Ammazulu African Palace. After the fun and relaxation of the previous two days, the third day (Wednesday 10 October) will start off with the more serious business of judging by the panel that includes Mary Holroyd, Jaco van Schalkwyk and Barbara Hynds (2011 Weigh-Less Man and Woman of the Year winner), Steve Mack (Durban-based psychologist) and Gina de Wall (Brand Representative – Finesse & Soul), before the contestants ending the day off by being pampered with spa treatments. The highly-anticipated final event, hosted by MC Dave Guselli, will take place on the morning of Thursday 11 October.
