Local Durban Artist Tyran Roy
My name is Tyran Roy and I am a 21 year old, 3rd year student at CFAD (Centre for Fine art, Animation and Design). Art has always been a central them in my life and I’ve been drawing since before I could remember learning to write in preschool, so I guess I see myself lucky that I was one of the people to carry it through my life. I started taking a bigger interest when I was in primary school by drawing people and cartoons off video tape covers. Towards the end of primary school I started to notice graffiti as not just scribbles on the wall anymore, not just someone scratching their name on something to claim ownership, but something more than that, because I witnessed people painting near my house. From there I just drew graffiti. For a long time I was just scribbling until I started drawing things that were structured and important to me. Now I’m painting walls and canvases for people while studying and seeking an internship. I also do graphic design involving logos and corporate identities and am slowly learning web design. I do a lot of non-profit work as well for schools preschools and youth centres and have won a few competitions for myself in the process. I am constantly testing myself and getting better and I try and take every job as seriously as possible and try to keep my style as open and diverse as I can.
