Decorex Durban Manscape – From surfer to ‘Manscaper’
Decorex SA launches the tongue in cheek “Manscape” project. Inspired by the success of the Mancaves feature in 2012 where some of South Africa’s most popular male celebrities and designers created the ultimate Mancave. South Africa’s premier décor, design and lifestyle exhibition will invite the boys back again – only this time they‘re being sent outside to create an outdoor living space that any South African man would aspire to and want to recreate.
Local surfer Daniel Redman has “zero experience” when it comes to landscaping or putting together an outdoor area, but that is not deterring him from giving it his all for this year’s Manscape challenge at Decorex Durban.
Daniel, along with other local celebrities, will team up with a professional landscaper to create his ultimate outdoor living space, known as a Manscape, as part of a fund raising initiative within this year’s Decorex Durban show – taking place between March 20 and 23.
“I come from a surfing background so I will want a look that will best fit the surfing lifestyle,” said Redman, when asked about his plan for his Manscape.
“I have zero experience so this will be a fun learning experience for when the day comes… I want to put in a boardrack and a mini bar fully stocked with beers.
“But I will also try incorporate the whole healthy outside living beach theme.”
Redman’s chosen charity, which will benefit from his Manscaping adventures, is Surfers Not Street Children.
“I’ve chosen this organisation because I am a surfer and surfed with a lot of the kids that have come out of this program and I have seen first-hand how they have changed their lives,” he explained.
The organisation gives surfing lesson to street children while trying to inspire them to make something of their lives.
“They share a passion for the ocean with a desire to see no child having to live on the streets.”
Redman will partner with landscaper Denzil from Spade Design in his quest to create his ultimate Manscape.
General Manager of Decorex SA, Sian Steyn, said she was excited to see what the celebrity/landscaper pairs could come up with for the show.
“South Africans are known for outdoor entertaining, we aim to showcase inspirational outdoor settings, incorporating different personalities,” said Steyn.
“This is the year that design and decor moves away from sweeping trend dictates and focuses on the needs and styles of the individual. Being confident in our own design choices is trending across the globe and people are feeling empowered to make their own style statement in all aspects of home décor.”
Other Decorex Durban Manscape participants include East Coast Radio DJ Gabriel Sithole and former professional cricket player Russel Symcox. Be sure not to miss the Manscapes project at Decorex Durban next weekend.
