Artist Mikhail Reitz
Biography of Mikhail Reitz:
Mikhail Reitz born on the 4th of April and named after Russian ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov.
Brought up in an Afrikaans background, knows English, Afrikaans and a bit of Mandarin.
Studied Business Management for a while, after realising that it’s not my cup of tea, I then chose to study Drama. Looking back I regret not choosing Art as a field of study, but by this time I was attending extra mural Art Classes, and the Drama helped me to work on my anti-social, overly introverted shy nature, so it did served its purpose.
I always had a great love for Alternative Art and music as well as Religions and Spiritual cultures. Being brought up in a difficult childhood, and moving a lot to various locations around South Africa brought much, turmoil, and temptation into my young life. It did take a toll on my life and life taught me a few lessons that I had to learn the hard way.
My life journey inspires me, and it shows in my Art. A couple of things that inspired me are: emotions, politics, sexuality, irony, satire, Feminism, people, Music and of course diverse African Art…I am Proudly South African.
I enjoy Art Exhibitions and try to visit as many galleries as possible. A few of my favourite exhibitions is “Woman of the world” at the Feint lifestyle Gallery. I love Louis Van Den Heaver, Mustafa Maluka and Marlene Dumas among other Artists, I love Impressionism.
