The Iconic Durban Ice Arena is back!

Thursday 24th September will see the new and improved Durban Ice Arena open its doors.
A long time in the making, and experiencing a few unforeseeable setbacks that are part and parcel when restoring any old building, a truly world-class facility awaits all patrons, and guarantees to take the Durban leisure and entertainment sector to an entirely new level; a level never seen before in the City of Durban.
So what can you expect from this newly polished gem? With the tagline of, “pure entertainment,” it promises to be nothing less, and its attributes and offerings extend far beyond that of just ice skating, but include great entertainment offerings, tantalizing cuisine and a little something for everyone.
According to the Owner, Mr Sastri Ramiah, “this project was certainly not a simple undertaking, as we renovated a landmark with such historic value, with the vision of creating a truly multi-purpose international arena, that can not only cater to our local and international ice-skating fraternity, but a venue that can be transformed for mixed used events, adding to the overall offering of Durban as a whole.”
The Arena’s flexibility is always been a key component of the overall development concept, and through the use of the efficient design technology including state of the art refrigeration, dehumidification and air control systems, the opportunities for the now International size ice surface is endless.
Ramiah has a dedication to the development of the ice-skating sport, and through skating aids such as the Bobby Seal and Penny the Penguin, believes that many more children may take to the ice, and hopefully will enter into learn to skate programmes that the Arena will be instituting in 2016, with the help of team of professional coaches and trainers.
Added to this, professional skaters, or those wanting to truly enter this sporting code, will have access to the Skate Shop, which will provide a retail outlet for ice-skates, figure skating dresses, ice-hockey skates and equipment and a range of other ice-skating related items.
The new and improved venue includes a host of private venue areas, ideal for Corporate events, team building and special events, such as birthday parties and the like, all overlooking the ice surface below, and flanked by the Arena’s own restaurant, providing a range of food and beverage offerings.
School excursions are also on the menu at the new Ice Arena, offering a mixture of education with fun. Learners will be exposed to the learnings of how ice is made and maintained, culminating in an ice-skating session at the end of the excursion.
Every last detail of this new and exciting venue has been well thought out, from the kiddies birthday party packages to the DJ sessions that will take place on a Saturday night, to the complimentary shuttle service from nearby additional parking areas, making the opening of the Durban Ice Arena something to certainly talk about!
