Shocking stats released indicated that 55% of the gross loss in the banking sector were incurred online and were estimated at over R250 million in 2017. August 2018, the stats were looking worse with 64.3% of crime being online and gross loss estimated at R183 million. Gross loss is a loss to both the consumer and the bank.
