Whales spotted at Tintswalo Atlantic!
A newly engaged couple staying at Tintswalo Atlantic in Hout Bay was lucky enough to witness two whales mating right in front of the lodge one morning this month. They were treated to a mesmerising display as the whales frolicked, played and waved their giant flippers in the morning sun.
The southern right whales generally arrive on the coast of South Africa around June, having swum over from the southern oceans around Antarctica where they feed for half the year. They love the safety of the Cape coast as a sheltered place to calve their young.
If you time it right, you can stand on the Chapman’s Peak mountain above Hout Bay and spot the whales breaking the surface and spraying their giant spouts into the sky – and the scenic Tintswalo Atlantic lodge down on the rocks offers a VIP seat to the spectacle.
The hotel is renowned as one of the most romantic hotels in the Mother City, a place where both visitors and Capetonians come to enjoy the breathtaking scenery – and it seems that the whales know this, too!
