Cape Town hotels voted world’s best
Hotels in Cape Town have been awarded the top scores in a worldwide study. Agoda.com, a leading hotel booking site, recently announced results of its Travel Smarts study which showed where travellers could find the best hotels in the world.
The study looked at nearly seven million customer reviews.
Top spot
Hotels in Cape Town had the highest ratings, scoring 8.43 out of 10.
Popular honeymoon spot The Maldives came in second and Zermatt, a skiing village in the Swiss Alps, was third.
Some of the hotels in Cape Town which were awarded the highest scores were inexpensive B&Bs and small boutique hotels.
“People assume that you need to spend a lot of money to have an amazing vacation, but that is not true. There are fantastic places to stay at all price points and star ratings if you know where to look,” said Global Hotels’ Errol Cooke.
All of the top destinations had one common attribute – a beautiful physical landscape with lots of attractions and activities for tourists.
A reputation for excellent service was also recognised.
Visitors to hotels are asked to review the hotels in six categories. These are location, value for money, staff performance, hotel cleanliness, room comfort and food.
Cape Town scored top marks in the staff performance and room comfort categories.
Other awards
Cape Town has been awarded numerous tourism awards this year. These include top spot in the New York Times 52 Places to Go in 2014, number three in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2014 Top Cities and Best Destination in Africa in the World Tourism Awards.
Attractions
The New York Times was particularly drawn to Cape Town because of its stunningly beautiful landscape and natural wonders like Table Mountain and Robben Island. The ease of being able to find a world-class hotel in Green Point or the City Bowl also appeals to tourists.
