To excel at something is a liberty not many underprivileged youths experience.

Defeated by poverty, limited by the vice grip of inadequate resources and weighed down by suffocating odds, to excel at something is a liberty not many underprivileged youths experience.

Sporting Chance

is a platform for children to enjoy a sense of accomplishment in an environment free from the burden of social diversities and other restrictions.

Since its inception in 1990,

Sporting Chance

has flourished into one of the leading sports coaching and development organisations of its kind.

Today, apart from inspiring youngsters to achieve at sports:
A Sporting Chance prompts children to spend their time preoccupying themselves wholesomely while providing them with some essential life skills they wouldn’t have exposure to otherwise.

To provide the Underprivileged children of South Africa with a Sporting Chance!

1. Development Coaching Clinics.

2. Capacity Building Workshops.

3. Individual bursaries and mentorship.

4. Kit Campaign: Sporting Chance collects used sport kits and distributes them to underprivileged children, who do not have access to basic equipment.

5. The Calypso Cricket Festivals: Is a proud Sporting Chance initiative that is aimed at scouting blossoming natural cricket talent and within children between the ages of eight and 15, along the coastal towns. The festival is also used as a catalyst to provide education and to motivate more youngsters to get involved.

6. Street Cricket: This project helps spread enthusiasm for active participation in sports by bringing the game of Cricket to the streets, where more children will enjoy exposure. It also gives children serious about progressing within the sport a chance to hone their skills close to home.

7. KIA Street Soccer: Like its Cricket counterpart, Street Soccer enables enthusiastic young players to bring the game closer to home. The KIA Street Soccer initiative is run in synergy with a 3 phase program that apart from sharpening budding talent, gives gifted youngster a chance to take their game from the streets to the stadiums. Participating youngsters get a chance to apply their skills in the Street Soccer League, guided by coaches trained in association with the PSL Partners.

8. Khulain Beach Soccer: Is a project that introduces coastal children to the game of soccer, using a fun variation of the traditional game.

9. The Health of Nation: The Health of the Nation project started with a research component where scientific tests were conducted, focusing on the importance of physical activity in South African children. A nationally representative database was created against which to measure changing norms for physical activity and physical fitness in children, or as a means of “benchmarking” implementation of successful school and community-based intervention.

With this in mind and to continue on from the Health of the Nation research project, Sporting Chance envisioned The Health of the Nation: “50 hour sports challenge” – keep the ball moving. This project involves over 6000 participants in the Western Cape and Gauteng as it highlights the importance and positives of physical activity and sport through exposing children to a variety of different sport codes and means of physical activity.
