Home of Hope is a registered Child Protection Organization which provides services for the safety, well-being and care of all children in need of it, with a holistic approach through protection, education and support with the aim of breaking the cycle of abuse…

Our Mission:

Care for and support children in community based foster homes.

Raise awareness through information and education of the plights and needs of children.

Provide special needs education for FASD and neurologically challenged children who are not coping in conventional schools.

Create an environment where children can be nurtured holistically to develop to their full God given potential.

Partner and network with relevant stakeholders, other organizations, businesses and individuals to be more effective in creating a brighter future for these children and families in need.

Cultivate a shared responsibility with relevant stakeholders and the community towards the continually changing socio-economic problems which affect children.

Define the specific needs of each community, and ensure the correct application and division of supplies to enrich and assist that community in achieving their own goals (Robin Hood Principle).

Continue to build a credible and sustainable support operation through transparency, honesty and accountability, within a framework of Christian ethics and principles.

Community Based Foster Homes:

Home of Hope supports community based foster care homes in Table View, Phoenix and Milnerton. We can accommodate up to 24 children at any one time within these homes. The objective of these homes is to ensure an environment where children can be nurtured holistically to develop to their full God-given potential.

The foster home mimics as close as is possible a family unit with love and care-giving from a foster mother and ‘siblings’. It provides a stable and solid foundation giving the child a brighter future, and a fair chance of growing up to become a socially responsible member of society – breaking the cycle of abuse.

The Home of Hope supported children who have remained in our care long term are growing up quickly and their progress has been remarkable. The development and growth of each child has been inspiring, especially those with special needs. We recognize that if any child is given a stable, loving, supportive family and home environment they will flourish. We realize what a wonderful opportunity we have to make a difference in the lives of these children who are powerless against their offenders, and are unable to provide for themselves.

It is not always possible to find individual foster families for each child, coupled with the challenges of the HIV/ aids epidemic facing SA, as well as dealing with children that are affected by FASD (Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder). The Western Cape is one of the areas with the highest percentage of FASD in the world. We believe the solution to reducing this high incidence of FASD lies in working with the affected families.

Amathemba Individual Learning Centre:

In July 2010 we opened our Amathemba School, an exciting and pioneering initiative within the South African education landscape. After recognising that many of the Home of Hope supported children suffer from FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) and were not coping in conventional school environments we began our own research. In partnership with West Coast Christian School we have developed and are now piloting a schooling model which caters specifically for the special needs of children who suffer from FASD.

These children are neurologically challenged and as such struggle with behavioural, emotional and learning difficulties in varying degrees. Amathemba is the first school in South Africa catering for the specific needs of FASD and neurologically challenged children. After just one year the progress of the children attending Amathema School is remarkable.

Re-distribution Programmes:

Home of Hope establishes partnerships with other organisations and role players to create platforms from which to effectively distribute excess items of donated clothing and household goods. The aim of these partnerships is to ensure the correct application and division of supplies to assist and enrich those in need and prevent a hand-out system with no purpose.
