Myög & Wakaberry Frozen Yoghurt – Under the Cover with Ed
So let’s face it, anything cool and sweet in the summer heat that proclaims its 98% fat free is bound to be investigated so I decided to compare 2 famous Cape Town frozen yoghurt spots on Kloof Street.
Now I have always loved Myög, who proudly describes itself as a frozen yoghurt boutique and even though they only offer two flavours per week, it sees me at least once every 7 days to try their new flavour and bask in their fresh, light & airy atmosphere.
Each week I wait in dear anticipation to hear what the following week’s flavour would be and find myself going back and back and back again…
When the Wakaberry franchise popped up further up on Kloof Street, I felt compelled to check out the competition and make my own comparisons and conclusions. Naturally I discussed this with some friends and this is what flowed out of our yoghurt pot of opinions:
- Myög frozen yoghurt tastes genuine, Wakaberry has artificial hints.
- Wakaberry has an amazing variety of flavours, Myög doesn’t.
- Myög staff are mysterious hot French guys, Wakaberry staff are South African
- Wakaberry has self-service, Myög has counter service.
- Myög has unlimited toppings for R10 extra, Wakaberry toppings are weighed.
- Wakaberry has the option to sit and eat outside with a beautiful view of Table Mountain, Myög doesn’t.
- Myög is cosy, Wakaberry is spacious.
Furthermore Wakaberry also offers classic flavours like Strawberry, Vanilla, Mixed Berry and English Toffee and brings out quite unique flavours such as Green Tea, Pomegranate, Cheesecake and Red Velvet. Wakaberry’s toppings range from sweets, chocolates and sauces to healthy fresh fruit, nuts and cereals.
Wakaberry works on a pay-per-weight system meaning that you can choose how much of what you want and pull the lever at leisure…
Both Wakaberry and Myög are founded in South Africa, but where Wakaberry flew in from Durban, Myög is proudly Capetonian.
Myög offers their plain yoghurt flavour every week and brings out a Flavour of the Week which ranges in flavours like Peanut Butter, Coconut, Mixed Berry and Nutella. Myög also does amazing Shakes, Parfait and Waffles combined with their genuine frozen yoghurt.
In this case the proof of the pudding is definitely in the eating!
When my gran came to visit the other day, I decided to go back to Myög with her, but maybe you’re more of a “Waka-fan” (as they affectionately call them)… this you’ll only know if you go out and try some for yourself as in this case the proof of the pudding is definitely in the eating.
