U-turn launches campaign to combat rising homelessness in SA
As winter looms and homelessness escalates in South Africa, U-turn Homeless Ministries and Independent Media have united to launch a campaign to address this pressing issue and raise R1 million to bolster U-turn’s efforts.
Dubbed ‘A Night on the Streets’, the initiative urges South Africans to contribute and spend 18 May experiencing solidarity with the homeless by sleeping outdoors. This endeavour seeks to deepen awareness of homelessness in South Africa and underscore that it is often not a matter of choice.
Taariq Halim, regional editor of Independent Media’s Cape publications, emphasised the urgency of addressing homelessness, stating, ‘But as winter approaches and more people find themselves in these circumstances, something must be done to help them and reopen our eyes to the humanness of the problem around us.’
