Wednesday Night Riding Part 2
This Wednesday promised to be lots of fun as we had had some heavy rainfall. Which meant….MUD. Klaus, by commenting about the mud automatically volunteered for bikewashing duties after the ride :)
Gav tried to throw a spanner in the works by suggesting a Thursday morning ride instead and was severely reprimanded by Leon for messing with the institution of the Wednesday Night ride.
Claire was at the start to take some more pics as promised and Taryn joined us this week for the first time. Off we went on our usual route past the Vineyard Hotel through a park and up to Kirstenbosch top gate where we regrouped and Claire took a few more pics.
Then we dropped down onto some tricky single track and were off on our night time expeditions. Klaus completely aced in such style one particularly irksome hill that he has been trying to master for ages. Hudson had the first fall at the top of Southern Cross Drive and recoverd quickly then we were off again down fast flowing single tracks and greenbelts from heaven. Somewhere along the back roads we seemed to get split up and lost each other for a while but soon we all caught up with each other and headed for the muddy dam where the tricky log was asking to be ridden over. This time a few people aced it and to my surprise so did I :)
We all appeard out of the bushes and onto the road at one point to be met by the residents of the house opposite and they were most surprised and delighted to see us all. So we had a quick chat and off we went again. Pipe gorge was the next challenge! It was quite a comedy navigating our way up and Si rode it with his usual tecnical mastery. Though he did get caught out by a slippery pipe at one stage. Leon did so well and provided us with much entertainment as he attempted the last tricky hurdle to the top to the cheers of all.
From there it was one last steep climb and we were home free to much deserved beers, milkshakes and burgers at Hudsons.
