Good Hope FM scoops MTN Radio Award
Good Hope FM received an MTN Radio Award on Saturday, 9 April, when The Guy McDonald Afternoon Drive Show was announced the winner of the Best Day Time Show of the Year.

The team was up against seven other finalists nominated in this category, but comments from the MTN Radio Awards judges on why this show won, was that it had good production and well researched information that made for compelling listening and a show that’s entertaining , fast-paced and well executed.
The Guy McDonald Afternoon Drive Show has been on air since the October 2009 and the team just clicked and wooed their weekday audience with their daily antics and sense of humour from day one. Being such a huge success and very popular with listeners, the team was moved to host the Good Hope FM breakfast show from 1 April, to give Capetonians the opportunity to experience their abundance of energy on their way to work. The on-air team consists of presenter, Guy McDonald, Tracey Lange as the news reader, Carl Wastie as the sports presenter, and behind the scenes, the team is supported by producer, Quentin Pavitt.
“This is another great achievement for Guy and his team. Last year it was silver, this year they excelled and grabbed gold. We are very proud of the team knowing Cape Town is waking up to the best daytime show in the city,” said Good Hope FM Programme Manager, Gerard Muller.
Guy McDonald comments: “Winning silver in this category last year was hugely encouraging to the team and we wondered if gold could be a possibility. I believe the focus, energy and creativity of my team has truly defined this award for us. We are more than a team, we’re a family and with that in mind we are honoured by this prestigious recognition. We do what we do and are flattered by judges’ decision, the gold standard has been set and we aim to maintain it.”
Good Hope FM Breakfast with Guy McDonald (previously the Guy McDonald Afternoon Drive Show) is on air every weekday from 06:00 to 09:00 with a team that is committed to placing a new vibrant spin on the show by implementing a lot of wit and humour, combined with great talk and music, early on weekday mornings. The team’s irreverent mix of humour, satire, debate and hit music gets listeners up and to work each day with a smile. The show is continuously being reinvented to capture the listener’s imagination and keep them in touch with all the fun and excitement that goes hand in hand with living in the Mother city.
This year just on 400 entries in over 30 categories were received for second MTN Radio Awards ceremony in the search for finalists that represent the very best in South African radio, showing an increase of almost 100% in the number of entries compared to 2010. The winners of the MTN Radio Awards were honoured and presented with their awards at a prestigious Gala Dinner held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, 9 April.
Good Hope FM Top 30 presenter, Sean Loots, was also nominated as a finalist in this year’s MTN Radio Awards in the category for Music Presenter.
