Newlands suspect arrested
A suspect was arrested in Newlands on Sunday afternoon (5 August 2018), after allegedly stealing a pair of sunglass and a toolbox from a car parked in the area.
Fidelity ADT says they received a panic alarm signal from one of its clients in Governors Lane and deployed an armed response vehicle.
“When our officer arrived at the address, our client told him that a suspect had allegedly stolen items out of his parked vehicle. Armed with a description of the suspect, our officer started searching the area,” explains Mr Jade Hanning, district manager (Cape Town South) for Fidelity ADT.
The alleged suspect was located soon, in nearby Upper Wheelan Road.
“Claremont SAPS were called to the scene and they took the suspect into custody after the allegedly stolen items were found in his possession. This arrest was made possible thanks in great part to the alarm being raised quickly and the fact that our armed response officer had an accurate description of the suspect,” says Hanning.
