Dan Plato: Everything you need to know about Cape Town’s next mayor
Dan Plato has been elected to lead the City of Cape Town as mayor from November onwards. Here’s a look at the Cape’s ‘new’ lead supervisor.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) announced on Tuesday that it had found a suitable replacement for Patricia de Lille, following months of public bickering between the two, which eventually ended in the current mayor’s resignation, due to take effect on 31 October.
Enough has been written about the nasty infighting which gripped the DA in Cape Town, resulting from de Lille’s refusal to step down from her position, before clearing her name of any wrongdoing, which included allegations of nepotism and mismanagement.
The DA, now looking to sweep all of its past misgivings under the political rug, has handed de Lille’s mayoral chains over to Plato, the current MEC for community safety in the Western Cape.
Let’s take a closer look at the man with the plan, 57-year-old, Dan Plato.
