Dry skin? This is for you
It doesn’t take an expert to tell you that you have dry skin. The look and feel of your skin already reveals the tell-tale signs of dry skin. Fortunately, you don’t have to live with this skin problem forever. Experts can’t change the hereditary factors which is the leading cause of dry skin but they can provide solutions to the problem.
When to see a dermatologist
There are many products on the market that can aid you in caring for your dry skin. However, if the following remedies have no effect on your skin, then it’s time to seek help from a dermatologist. Extremely dry skin will require a prescription ointment or cream to reduce dryness as this can be a sign of a skin condition needing special treatment. A dermatologist will be able to thoroughly examine your skin and provide expert opinion in what can help reduce your discomfort.
For itchy, dry skin
Greasing up is the best solution for relieving discomfort of itchy, dry skin. Find a moisturiser that is thick and heavy, and stay far away from water scented lotions. These are no solution for dryness as it will further dry out the skin. For a less expensive option, use petroleum jelly. Unlike oily skin types, which aren’t suited for the use of petroleum jelly, it will actually soothe dry skin, leaving your skin itch-free and bringing about a healthy glow.
Milk it up
Dry, winter skin has a tendency to irritate you until you feel like you want to scratch. Before digging your fingers into your face, take a step into the kitchen. Pour milk into a bowl and relieve your itch by dipping a washcloth or a piece of gauze into cold milk, and apply it to your skin for five minutes. Milk has anti-inflammatory properties that is not only a skin soother, but also contains lactic acid, which is beneficial for skin. After dabbing your face with milk, complete your skin regime by applying skin products like Afriderm peeling gel or a special toner.
Moisturise while skin is damp
Apply your moisturiser straight after you get out of the bath or shower. Your skin will still be damp and plump with moisture and will easily lock in the nourishment from your skincare product. Moisturisers are created for the sole purpose of locking moisture into the skin so that it doesn’t evaporate, keeping your skin hydrated and nourished.
