Tips for moving to Cape Town
Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. We know this from the hoards of tourists that make their way to the Mother City every December. There’s a thriving night life, amazing culture of creativity and, of course, the mountain.
So, it’s only natural that so many people want to move this side. The thing is, it’s not always easy when you arrive at the southernmost tip of Africa. When you come from another part of the country or continent it can be quite tricky. So, here are some ways you can make Cape Town your home almost immediately.
Organise a job
Jobs don’t grow on trees anywhere in the world and Cape Town is no different. You need to make sure you have a definite way to support yourself before you make any plans. It’s not that there aren’t any jobs, it’s that it takes a long time to find the right one. Companies often take a lot of time deciding who to interview and who to eventually hire. Of course, there are some industries in Cape Town that are truly thriving and others that are not doing as well. So, you should also check if Cape Town is the right place for someone with your work experience.
Know where you’ll be living
Cape Town isn’t just the city. There are many suburbs in addition to the city centre. There are so many different places to stay. If you know where you’ll be working, you should find a place that’s relatively close. If you have a family, you might want to stick to the suburbs. However, if you want somewhere with a more creative vibe that is a little closer to town, try Woodstock or Observatory.
Get out and about (once you arrive)
Don’t just sit at home and set up house when you arrive. Unpack your kitchen and duvet cover sets and then get out there and explore. Go to the local markets, check out the nightlife on Long Street and find the kinds of places you like. And, this is very important, discover all the different types of food. There are so many delicious places to eat in Cape Town and you should try them all. Of course, you should also take a look at where the major shopping outlets are so you know where to go to buy certain things.
Cape Town is a beautiful and exciting city and chances are you’ll love your new home.
