Tips for moving into a new apartment
You have just signed the papers to your new apartment (congrats!). Moving can be a daunting task, especially when you have to start the packing process.
Now it’s time to decide what items you are going to pack, throw out and buy.
Pack
Unpack your cupboards and put all the clothing that you have worn in the past six months into one area. Once your clothing is packed into boxes it’s time to go through your kitchen appliances.
Pack unchipped mugs, Tupperware and your pots and pans into a box and then start going through your essential furniture, such as the dining room table and chairs. Items that are in a good condition and still have many good years ahead of them can go with you.
Throw out
Is your couch filled with tea stains and cat claw marks? Is your once white carpet now the colour of dirty sink water? Do you have an old painting that not even the hospice shops will want? It’s time to throw out your unwanted items.
Moving into a new place brings with it an opportunity to start new and fill your next environment with pieces that bring a fresh beginning to this exciting chapter. Go through your items and start packing your unwanted goods into boxes to throw out. There are many charities that will accept your unwanted goods with open arms.
Buy new
Moving into a new apartment doesn’t have to be an expensive task. Write down all of the items you have to buy. This can include new curtains, new cutlery and towels. If you don’t have the time to go into a store to buy new things, don’t be afraid to use online sites.
You will be surprised at how many items you will find online at a reasonable price and the service usually has a delivery option too. You might want to look online for a new fridge for sale as schlepping an old mouldy fridge around with you for years is unhygienic and just gross. Buying a new couch is also an investment as this is something that will get many years’ worth of use in.
