Things to remember when decorating a newborn’s room
For most parents-to-be, decorating a baby’s nursery is both a fun and exasperating thing to do.
Not knowing exactly what you need, yet also wanting everything to be perfect, can leave you feeling a bit distressed.
These are a few nursery room suggestions to help you out as you welcome your bundle of joy.
Keep things simple
First and foremost, always keep in mind, while looking for ideas for your baby bedroom, to keep it simple. Clutter has never looked cute. Dealing with a newborn can be a lot to handle, so try to make your baby’s room a relaxed, calm and clean environment for you and the newborn. Always keep in mind that babies can sense everything, so aim for a relaxed and healthy environment.
Comfortable, good quality cot
One thing all babies do, even if it feels like a short period of time, is sleep. That’s why it’s important for your little one to have a cute, comfortable baby bed for them to sleep in. Always check on the mattress height, making sure it’s good quality to help your baby’s spine development properly.
Baby room wall decor
Creating a good colour scheme is important. Different shades of blue, pink, white and grey are great for a baby’s nursery, especially if you’re looking for a gender-neutral nursery theme without any prints or Disney characters.
Using light colours that go well together can change the entire look of the room. Remember that clutter doesn’t always mean cute.
Why do I need a changing unit?
While looking for baby furniture, a changing unit is the next important thing for your baby’s room. A changing unit is where you find everything you need, exactly when you need it: diapers, wipes, pacifiers, you name it. When your baby is in need of a diaper change, the one thing you shouldn’t be worrying about is where you last put the clean diapers.
Also, opt for one that is big enough and that has drawers, making it easier for you to pack all essentials while still having space to change your baby’s diaper.
Baby monitor
Having a baby monitor allows you to have some sort of peace of mind, as you can be in two different places at once. As much as any parent would love to watch their baby all day, as a new mom or dad, it is also important to take care of yourself like making yourself something to eat or going for a bathroom break.
If an audio monitor doesn’t put you at ease, fear not. Video monitors are here to enable you to see your baby’s every move, not in a creepy way. This should give you some of peace of mind, especially if your little one is energetic.
Diaper bin
Babies are mainly known for three things: crying, sleeping and needing their diapers changed! Now, what would a baby’s nursery be without a diaper bin?
The ideal place for a baby bin would be next to your baby’s crib set or changing unit so that, while you’re changing your baby’s diaper, you can quickly dispose of all the diapers and baby wipes you were using. Rather that than on your changing unit, as we all know that babies are quite fast and are always exploring and touching things.
Rocking chair
Whether it’s a rocking chair or just a normal chair, you need one. this chair will soon be your second bed. This is where you will catch yourself drifting as you rock your baby to sleep. The comfier, the better, as you will be spending a lot of time there. It is also ideal for when you’re feeding your newborn because it’s in the baby’s room, so you can put your baby down should they fall asleep and you’re able to sit there for a few minutes will you’re putting the baby to sleep.
Lamps
A baby needs to be attended to day and night. A night lamp would be perfect for those late night diaper changes. This lamp should help you to see what you’re doing in the night, but it’s also dark enough for a sleepy baby.
Baby crib bedding sets
Baby blankets for newborns aren’t exactly safe, so you don’t need them right away. It would be best to wait until the first year has passed. In the meantime, a baby sheet will be just fine, however, there is nothing wrong with buying one now as it would be great for nursery decor.
When the nesting instinct approaches, planning a nursery might seem stressful. However, as soon as you start, everything will fall into place, ensuring that by the time your little one comes, everything is perfect.
