Why Century City is perfect for a sunny or rainy day
There are plenty of shopping centres in the Western Cape with unique mixed-use developments that offer its visitors a variety of activities.
One such shopping mall near you in the city of Cape Town is Canal Walk Shopping Centre by Century City.
Century City and Canal Walk are the perfect places to be on both a sunny or rainy day.
There is more to do here than shop around one of the big malls in Cape Town. Come rain or shine, there will always be something exciting for you, family and friends to do in the Century City development.
Movies at Scene Xtreme
Movies were made for rainy days but sometimes we don’t want to be constricted by the four walls of our TV room circulating the same three movies in the house. You can still enjoy movies on a rainy day and even more so at the Scene Xtreme cinema at Nu Metro in Canal Walk Shopping Centre.
The Scene Xtreme will preview one of the latest movies on the circuit with the best sound, image and seating experience. Also, there’s something special about “movie popcorn” that cannot be replicated at home, no matter which spices you buy or how to cook it. So, spend your next rainy day at Nu Metro in Canal Walk and experience a movie in the best way possible.
All the games at Wonderland
If your children are restless in the house when it’s raining, consider taking them to the Wonderland games centre at Canal Walk. From car racing to motorbikes, air hockey, hunting, drum master, dance extreme, deal or no deal, claw machines and throwing games that earn you tickets, Wonderland is the perfect place for a restless child on a rainy day.
Underground go-karting
If you’re looking for something to entertain the older kids, parents and young ones on a rain-day, then you should take everyone to the underground go-karting in Canal Walk. It’s the perfect activity for adrenaline, friendly competition and a distraction from the gloomy weather outside.
All-day shopping
Then, of course, as it is a big mall in Cape Town with over 400 stores, you could stay in Canal Walk Shopping Centre’s doors and shop all day. Local and international brands are located in this 141 000 square-metre mall. Yes, you’ll definitely make your step-count for the day when browsing through all these stores.
And while you’re browsing, you’ll likely need to stop for a refreshment, snack or meal. Grab something from the food court and you might be treated to the events happening at the main court.
Timeout at the Life Day Spa
When the sun is shining and you want to enjoy both in and outdoors, treat yourself to a day at the Life Day Spa in Century City. With your treatment taking place indoors (with access to the indoor bath pools) and the opportunity to lounge by the outdoor pool in the sun, the Life Day Spa is a great way to enjoy any day.
Intaka Island
For those who want to be outdoors in the sun and amongst nature, you need to visit the Century City Intaka Island. Intaka Island is a wetlands and bird sanctuary with 120 different bird and 177 different fynbos species.
Take a stroll, view from a bird hide or go on a boat trip around the area and take in this nature reserve in the middle of an urban development. Intaka Island is one of the many conservation efforts that Century City has implemented in their community.
Saturday parkrun
If you want to active and outdoors, then you could always take part in the Saturday 5 km parkrun at 8am. After that, you can head inside the Canal Walk Shopping Centre and enjoy a cup of coffee and a well-deserved breakfast before continuing with the rest of your sunny day.
If you would prefer to take a stroll than a run, consider walking along the Century City art trail that takes you around the mall and its surrounding area. It boasts murals and sculptures by local artists and is a relaxing, outdoor, activity.
Galileo open-air cinema
For a sunny-day alternative to movies inside, you can book your spot at the Galileo open-air cinema in Century City. It’s the perfect date-night idea with all-time favourite movies shown in a picnic-type environment.
Warm summer evenings out under the stars with popcorn, a great film and your partner – is there anything better?
Attend a market
Century City hosts two markets: the Natural Goods Market and the Night Market. These happen on the last Sunday and Friday of the month, respectively, and entail great food, entertainment and a good time.
The Natural Goods Market is more family oriented and happen in the mornings, while the Friday Night Market is for the young adults looking for live music, a drink and some food to enjoy. And markets are always a fun way to take advantage of good weather.
