Play outside with your child this winter
We tend to spend far too many hours cooped up inside during the long, chilly winter months. It is important to get outside, into the fresh air, and take our children with us. They hate being cooped up without being to run around. There are plenty of parks and play areas in Cape Town where you can take your children to play on jungle gyms, pet animals and feel the grass underfoot. These are some of our favourites.
Bugz Family Play Park
One of the best known family parks, Bugz in Kraaifontein offers freeplay areas, token rides, magic shows and characters. A visit to the park is always fun for the whole family with children especially enjoying the jungle gyms, swings and slides, pedal cars, jumping castles and rowing boats. Prices range from R35 to R45, with token rides costing R5. In addition, the Bugz Tent Kitchen offers a variety of child-friendly meals.
Green Point Urban Park
This free park is open daily from 7am to 7pm, making it a must-visit spot for families who are in the mood for some outdoor fun. Even the canine members of your family are welcome here. Play and exercise equipment is there for active children and adults. There are also water features, a biodiversity garden and plenty of lawn for picnics.
The Blue Train Park
This iconic Cape Town spot has been in operation for more than 55 years. Chances are you would have visited this park when you were a child and perhaps your parents did too. Footsteps away from the Atlantic Ocean and in the shadow of Lion’s Head, Devil’s Peak and Table Mountain, the location can not be beaten. The park is home to a number of fun activities for children aged between 1- and 12-years-old. Entrance costs R15 per person and includes one free ride.
Imhoff Farm
This Noordhoek farm is home to a number of activities for the whole family to enjoy. Children are able to enjoy the farmyard, camel and horse rides, face painting, a snake park and paintball. For the adults there are a number of restaurants, shops and art galleries to peruse.
Fun House
Located on a farm between Plattekloof and Durbanville, Fun House offers a unique experience for children. It offers both indoor and outdoor play areas with slides, jumping castles, sandpits, jungle gyms and craft tables. It can host your child’s party, complete with face painting and treasure hunts. Entrance fee is R40 per child.
