Off-beat anniversary ideas
When you’ve been married for a while, you can lose a bit of that romance you started out with. You still love each other but you no longer feel the need to impress one another with grand romantic gestures. The thing is, you need to remember to still celebrate the special occasions.
One of the special occasions you should always put that little bit of extra effort in is your anniversary. Here are some great ways to celebrate your marriage and all the time you’ve spent together.
Recreate your first date
It’s likely that your first date is one of your best memories. So, why not recreate that special night. Was it a nice restaurant or a simply afternoon cup of coffee? Whatever it was you can do it all over again. If the exact place isn’t there anymore or is in another city or country, you can always get a bit creative. Try to use similar decor in your living room and have the same menu. You can make this a surprise or include your partner in the planning, it’s all up to you.
Go on a second honeymoon
However, if it’s a big anniversary and you really need a holiday, a second honeymoon may be the perfect thing. You could go to that island resort or try a hotel on the beach in a coastal town. It’s a great way to spend some quality time together and really enjoy each other’s company. Sometimes life gets busy and you end up never really seeing each other except for at the dinner table. Getting away from the everyday hustle and bustle will give you time to reconnect.
Have a spontaneous day out
You don’t have to plan this one. Set out early in the morning and go for a nice breakfast. Then take a walk around town or visit the V&A Waterfront for a boat ride. The point is to spend the day together without having any expectations. You’ll be surprised at what happens when you simply let things happen and see where the day takes you. It can be relaxed or adventurous depending on the mood you both wake up in. Of course, you shouldn’t make all the decisions on your own. Let your partner add their input.
At the end of the day, all that really matters is that you spend some quality time together. Your marriage is special and you should make an effort to celebrate it every year.
