How to keep warm this winter
In winter the nights are long and days short.
When the temperature drops outside it’s more of a challenge to get out of your warm duvet cover and embrace a new day.
The chilly weather could make you want to hibernate in your room and get lost in a good book.
But if you invest in ways to keep you warm and toasty during winter, you’ll be prepared to face winter struggles head on.
Here are a few ways to keep warm this winter.
Dress code
The winter season is all about piling on layers of clothing to keep yourself protected from harsh winter temperatures. Leather jackets, scarves, jerseys and leggings are the staples of a winter wardrobe. Bundle up in thick jerseys and wear layers of thin clothing and long socks to keep you warm during this season. You can’t predict the weather which is why you should keep an extra jersey at work or in your car. When the temperature drops you don’t want to be unprepared by not having something warm to wear.
These boots were made for walking
Jazz up your winter outfits by adding boots to the mix. Boots come in all shapes, materials and sizes and are a necessity in any wardrobe. You can choose from thigh high boots to ankle boots.
Fuzzy rug
There’s nothing like waking up fresh from a good night’s sleep, only to have your feet touch a cold hard floor. In order to prevent this, you should add a fuzzy rug so your feet don’t touch the ground.
Hands and feet
When it’s freezing the body works hard to keep the core vital organs warm and this could limit blood circulation in other areas of the body, leaving your hands and feet cold. This is why you should invest in socks and gloves which will keep them warm.
Exercise
Grab your sneakers, water bottle and head out for a exercise routine. The last thing you might feel like doing in the middle of winter when it’s bitterly cold outside is to work out. But exercising will help you stay warm. You don’t have to have a vigorous workout routine you can opt for a mild jog which will get your blood pumping and blood circulating.
Blankets
When the temperatures dip below freezing point it could leave you reaching for your heater each night. But why don’t you save on electricity bills and grab a couple of thick blankets. When the weather is freezing put the blankets between you and your duvet cover. And for the warmer nights put it on top of the duvet cover.
Hot beverages
If you’re a coffeeholic, then hot coffee drinks are the perfect way to heat you up during this cold season. If you’re looking for a healthier alternative you might need to ditch the coffee and pick a herbal tea or decaffeinated drink instead.
Hot water bottle
Another way to keep toasty warm during winter is to grab a hot water bottle. A hot water bottle is a cheaper alternative to turning up the heat. If you find yourself freezing in the middle of the night and you don’t have a hot water bottle, you could create your own substitute by heating up some rice and placing it in a pillowcase,
Healthy foods
Eat healthfully in order to keep the flu away. Mushrooms, garlic and yoghurt are great foods which help combat flu. And because winter could leave you craving comfort food, you could make stews and soups which will heat your body up from the inside out.
Fireplace
Winter is perfect for curling up in front of a crackling fireplace with a good book in hand. And another benefit of a fireplace is if the power is out in your house you won’t be left cold, you could just heat up your place by making a fire.
Winter hats and earmuffs
Don’t leave your head exposed to the cold, wear a winter hat and earmuffs to protect you from the cool weather.
Beat the winter blues
Hibernating is for bears, not people. Many people want to be indoors in winter in order to avoid the cool temperatures outside. But you still need to be active in winter you could go indoor rock climbing, take a dance class or join a gym.
Winter is the time to cosy up with family around a fire or dust off your boots and burn of winter calories by taking a long walk outside. Whichever way you choose to spend winter just make sure you’re warm under layers of clothing.
