How to entertain yourself this winter
Summer has come and gone. The cold weather is on its way and it’s time to embrace the quiet calm of the rainy season.
Summer is known for being the social season and, while some of us are sad to see it end, having some time for ourselves is always good.
Staying inside all day and all night may seem boring and rather lonely. But there are a few ways to really treat yourself during these times. Between working, doing all our personal admin and maintaining relationships, we often forget how important it is to spend some quality time alone. The trick is to make a day (or night) of it.
Host a private movie night
This isn’t just about streaming a RomCom on your laptop while lying around in bed. You have to turn the night into a special occasion. Get your favourite beverage of choice, some delicious treats and a bunch of comfy blankets. Set up your lounge in the most inviting way you can think of. And spend some time choosing the perfect movie, whether it’s a classic or a new release you’ve been dying to see.
Create your own tasting menu
Going to a fancy restaurant and ordering the tasting menu is amazing, but doing it alone can feel a little sad sometimes. So, why not do it for yourself at home. There are two ways to do this. The first is to go shopping for the most delicious ingredients and cook a series of delightful treats you’ve been wanting to try out. The second option is a little easier: order various starters to take away from your favourite restaurant (or a restaurant you’ve never tried before) and set it up at home in your living room.
Put together a reading list
We all have that mental list of books we’ve been meaning to read. But life gets busy and we often just can’t find the time. So create a physical list of all the books you want to tackle this winter and set aside some time to delve into these novels. You can carry on reading any time, but make your reading night or afternoon a special event. Light up a fire (or turn on the heater), settle into your favourite chair and let the real world melt away.
Winter is on its way and with it comes the opportunity to spend some time relaxing on your own. We live such busy lives these days that we often forget we need to spend some quality time alone .
