How to enjoy yourself on holiday while being sick
Have you ever got sick right before or during a holiday? If you haven’t, consider yourself lucky. While chugging gallons of coffee to power through the workday can be frustrating, well, it’s not nearly as bad as being sick on holiday. Here are a few things to do while being sick on your holiday.
Don’t stress out
Yes, being sick while on your vacation is not fun. But getting angry and upset about it won’t fix anything – in fact, stress can actually make you sicker. So calm down, take a break, and be grateful that you actually do have some free time to relax.
Take a guided tour
If you’re too sick to explore a city on foot, hop on a bus or boat tour – you’ll be able to lie back and enjoy the scenery, hopefully without using too much energy. You don’t have to do anything and you can still see your vacation destination.
Eat healthy
There is a lot of self catering accommodation in Cape Town, where you can go on vacation and prepare your own food. That way you can cook something healthy that will help make you feel better. It’s important to stick to regular eating schedules when sick because consuming fewer calories than normal can restrict the body’s ability to heal.
Get a massage
The aches and pains of being sick can be helped with some therapeutic relief. Whether your technique of choice is a hot stone massage, aromatherapy, or a deep tissue rub, some well-deserved pampering can squash your symptoms and help you enjoy your trip.
See a show
Whether it’s a cinema show or live theater, you’ll still be able to tell yourself you’re getting out and enjoying all the town has to offer, while still relaxing in a comfy chair. And if you’re really feeling ill, then just convince yourself watching something on the television is enriching.
Read a book
You don’t have to be sitting in a far away place to settle in with a good summer read. Go to a local coffee house and splurge on a cappuccino or any other creation and spend a few hours lost in a book.
The trick to enjoying a holiday is to deviate from daily routines and truly make it a vacation. Whether you’re sick or healthy, you’ll return home rested and relaxed – and isn’t that the least we can hope for from a vacation anyway?
