Thinking out the box..
Well, with the warmer, sunnier weather, I have started having a look ‘round in my new neighbourhood (to which I moved as winter started, and Im really a under-the-blankets-for-cold-weather kinda girl!). There is this absolutely beautiful road, with vineyards and horses and old churches and great old trees…and lots of antique shops. Little bric-a-brac places. Which just gets me highly excited. I love retro style with a little bit of a story. This got me thinking about the old heirlooms and the jewellery passed down for mother to daughter, grandmother to grandson….
There is something so special to me about those rings that have seen a lifetime of marriage. However, generally, the styles of old do not quite match up to the contemporary style of the intended wearer of the jewels.
Well, the good news is 2-fold!
OLD STYLES ARE MAKING A COMEBACK!!
Yes, I fully shouted that out loud! Im excited. The old Edwardian, Victorian engagement rings are back in style with some modern twists. Feminity and class reign. Classic simplicity abounds. And brides are revelling in all styles princess!
Part 2 of the good news, is that, even if the ring is very old, damaged…or just plain unworkable with your style, there is still something we can do with it. We can melt the gold to create something completely new, while maintaining the sentimentality of “wearing granny’s gold” is preserved.
More about people than about jewelry.
This is something I’ve said about my business from time to time. But it was never more evident than in the last couple of weeks, when I had the privileged of working on a ring for a young lady turning 21. Her mother was having it made for her. They had just recently been reunited, after, due to circumstances beyond her control, she’d had to put her baby up for adoption. It was such a beautiful tale to be part of, and I’m so thankful to this wonderful lady for giving me the priviledge of that, plus for allowing me to share her amazing, brave story.
It made me realize once again…that every piece of jewelry has a story around it. Be it a story of love, or of independence. Everyone has one. And I am so blessed to be allowed to be a small part of some of that.
Summer lovin!
