De Waal park series ends on high note with Nomfusi
The inaugural Summer Concerts in the Park series draws to a close on Sunday 1 April, when De Waal Park’s Edwardian bandstand plays host for one last time this season, to one of SA’s top performing artists, the Afro-Pop sensation Nomfusi.
Sharing the spirit of Africa with global audiences, Nomfusi and her immaculate township band The Lucky Charms, combine the soul of Sophiatown (African jazz from the 60’s) with the excitement of Motown. This SAMA- and Metro FM nominated artist has toured the world with her unique sound, and continues to make her mark on the local charts and audiences.
Successful Summer Concerts in the Park:
Thousands have flocked to the pristine park to see some of Cape Town’s most esteemed artists take to the park’s beautiful Edwardian bandstand, in this Friends of De Waal Park initiative, sponsored by Re/Max Living. The series, which kicked off in November last year, featured the likes of Hot Water, Sterling EQ, Karen Zoid, Philharmonic Brass, The Gugulethu Tenors, The Rudimentals, Ike Moriz and Saudiq Khan, and has been hailed as a resounding success by the public, regular park users and media alike. “We wanted to create an event which the whole community can be part of”, says Charles Bowman, deputy chairman of Friends of De Waal Park, whose brainchild the series was. “The enormous turnout and the overwhelming interest we have received over the past 5 months have exceeded any expectations we had for this series, and we are looking forward to building on this in years to come, sponsorship permitting”.
Young and old are invited to enjoy Nomfusi and the Lucky Charms’ performance in the bandstand Sunday the 1st of April. The performance will commence at 15h00, and entrance is free! Concert-goers are encouraged to arrive from 14h00, and bring their own picnics (no food or drinks will be for sale), chairs, sun umbrellas, rugs, etc. De Waal Park is located on Molteno Road with entrances on Molteno, Upper Orange and Camp Streets.
