Creating the perfect hobby room
Life is both stressful and difficult, whether you’re worrying about impossible work deadlines or trying to maintaining relationships in your personal life.
Because of stressful obligations in life, everyone needs a hobby and a bit of time to themselves.
In fact, a hobby can be a great way to destress and get your mind back on track to deal with all of the troubles around you. If you’re a person who prefers the indoors, you’re going to want a dedicated hobby room for yourself.
Some people in your life may think that alone time is ridiculous and it can be seen as selfish. If you give into the demands of these people, you may never truly be happy. Alone time is something that most people need and often crave. It doesn’t matter if you just want to read a book, play video games, or look over a coin collection.
You may see your bedroom or house as your safe space, but a dedicated room just for hobbies can do you wonders. Here are a few ways to create your own “me room” for personal time.
Furniture for relaxing
An excellent way to rest and just take in the quiet is to have comfortable furniture, such as a nice lounge suit. The hobby room should have a chair or couch that will be relaxing in any weather and feel safe. Can you build a pillow fort with its cushions?
For creatives, you’ll want an office chair that’s perfect for sitting in for hours on end. This should be coupled with a desk that can accommodate your computer, workstation, or art supplies. Unless you work well in mess, be sure that it is always clean and free from any junk or things that will distract you from your personal time.
To paraphrase The Dude from The Big Lebowski, a rug can really tie a room together, man. Regardless if you’re watching movies, plowing through the latest best seller, or a hot new video game, the room needs to be comfortable and homey. Throw in a few pillows, maybe some paintings and posters, and you’ll get an excellent vibe going.
Usable during all seasons
If you’re living with other people, chances are you want to escape to your hobby room. After all, other people take up a lot of energy and can be conducive to your mental wellbeing. Because of this, the room should contain pretty much everything you need to lock yourself away for a few hours at a time.
Think about including a small fridge and a cupboard stocked with snacks and drinks. You don’t need to have sausage rolls on hand, but a few packs of chips and a bottle of cold drink will go a long way.
Another great way to keep yourself isolated is to control the temperature in the room. Think about installing an air conditioner and maybe a fan. These will help you through both freezing and boiling days so that you don’t need to keep the door open for airflow.
Fill it with hobbies
Your hobby room should not only be filled with all of items relating to your hobby, but those that also make you happy. You may be a huge fan of the Super Mario Brothers, so place all of your plushies and paraphernalia in the room with you. This will help to create a comforting room that you can feel at ease in.
Keep it social free
Your hobby room should exclude as many electronic devices as possible that can distract you. This doesn’t mean or computer or Blu-ray player shouldn’t be in there, but rather devices (like a cellphone) that are connected to social media and the outside world. Nothing breaks your concentration more than someone tagging you in a needless status update or a posting a picture you’re not interested in. In fact, bar cell phones and tablets from the room so that you can have total peace and quiet.
