Combination skin? This is for you
Combination skin occurs when you have both dry and oily skin at the same time. You will notice that there are some parts of your skin that are oily and other parts that are dry and flaky. The T-zone, which forms part of the nose, chin and forehead, will be predominantly oily. Whereas the remainder of your facial skin will form part of the dry skin. Typically, combination skin can also bring about breakouts and wrinkles or rosacea and dry skin simultaneously.
Combination skin can produce:
● Overly dilated pores
● Blackheads
● Oily skin
A common cause of combination skin
Genetics can often play a role in the cause of combination skin, but there are other factors that should kept in mind. The skin care products you use may also indicate where your skin type stems from. If you are using products which contain ingredients that irritate your skin, your skin will try and fight off the irritation by stimulating oil production to the T-zone area. As a result, over stimulation leads to conflict as it makes the skin more dry and adds redness to the rest of the face. This is how normal skin becomes combination skin in a matter of moments. To prevent combination skin, you may have to use different products on different parts of your face. Also, bear in mind that you shouldn’t use body cream for dark skin on parts of your face if the product is not designed for your skin type.
Taking care of your combination skin
Use a gentle cleanser on your face that has a water-soluble cleanser to prevent irritation and dryness. A cleanser that is gel-based or mild foaming is good for combination skin. For those who have dry skin and rosacea with sun damage, an ideal treatment would be a lightweight lotion cleanser for your face. An important face-wash rule to remember is that a good cleanser does not contain any irritants or fragrance, regardless of the texture it will always be gentle. The face wash you use is the first step to controlling combination skin. Stay away from soaps or bar cleansers of any kind, regardless of their claims on how good it is. The ingredients that are added to bar cleansers can clog pores or dry out and irritate the skin.
