5 Creative Ways to Save Time Every Day
When you get home from work, does it seem to take only minutes before it’s time to go to bed again?
Do you find yourself having to choose between gym and grocery shopping because you simply don’t have the time to do both?
If you’ve answered ‘no’ to these questions, well done – you’re one of a few people who can actually manage their time successfully. For the rest of us mere mortals, every day is a juggling act.
But if some people are getting it right, why can’t we all? What’s their secret?
We asked and got a few interesting answers that go beyond checking your email in the morning and drawing up a to-do list.
Sell your television
Surely this is crazy talk? No, it is not. Have you ever really taken note of how much time you spend in front the TV, watching nothing in particular? Do it and you’re guaranteed to be surprised! So chuck out your television and spend your time more wisely – go to the gym, read, play with your kids, visit a friend you haven’t seen in ages and do that DIY you’ve been meaning to get to for forever and a day.
Put your phone on silent
Again – not the end of the world. We’re not suggesting total shutdown, but definitely do it at work. If you’re unaware of your phone ringing or can’t hear constant social media updates, you’ll be less distracted and more productive. You’ll finish work on time and won’t have to work late. You can always check in during teatime and lunch to catch up on messages.
Move closer to work
Is most of your time wasted in peak hour traffic? Then move closer to work! This might seem like a radical thing to do, but just think about how much time you’ll save. You might find other bonuses to living closer to the office – rent in the area might be cheaper or there might be better schools. You won’t know until you start to look around, so take a chance and do it.
Change your cooking habits
You don’t always have to cook from scratch. Have ready-prepared meals handy and stock your kitchen cupboards with canned vegetables, soups and fish. Add a packet of rice or couscous and you’re pretty much set for dinner. You could also double the recipes you usually use and freeze individual portions. A quick defrost and you’ll have a home-cooked meal whenever you feel like it.
Increase your workout intensity
If you’re working out for an hour every day, but you’re going at it half-heartedly, you’re wasting time and energy. Kick things up a notch and not only will you burn more fat, you’ll be able to get away with exercising for only 40 minutes or even 30 minutes a day. Interval training is ideal – it revs up your metabolism and keeps it going for at least an hour after your workout.
One last tip – read articles like these on your smartphone while you’re waiting in line at the supermarket. That’s at least another 3 minutes you’ve just saved yourself. Soon the numbers will add up, leaving you with more time in your day.
