4 common myths about bras
This article is for the ladies, but men are welcome to read on for interest’s sake.
Bras are an everyday necessity for most of us. We rely on them for comfort and support on a regular basis. When you think about it, our bras play a really big role in our lives. A good bra can make you feel great and a bad bra (the type that pokes you when you’re sitting down) can ruin your whole day. So, maybe it’s time we give our bras a little more attention?
To start off with, here are some myths about bras that we’ve heard time and time again.
Sleeping with a bra will stop your breasts from drooping
They won’t. Wearing the right bra size during the day will help your breasts a lot more. You’re not building new muscles and you’re not tightening anything when you wear a bra. Your breasts sag or become droopy due to gravity and when you’re lying down, there’s not much of that happening. And, of course, it’s super uncomfortable.
You have a definite bra size
Whether you’re wearing padded bras or prefer sports bras for comfort, you won’t always need the same size. Like clothing, it all depends on the cut and brand of the bra. Always try on a bra before purchasing so you know that it works with the shape and size of your breasts. You don’t want to end up with a bra that cuts into you or leaves marks when you remove it.
Not wearing a bra is bad for your breasts
While gravity may work a little harder on your breasts when you’re not wearing a bra, it’s not going to actively make them droopier. Your breasts may, however, revert to their natural shape (which isn’t always a bad thing). Not wearing a bra won’t start the process of your breasts sagging any more than they naturally will.
The cup size is the most important part
Of course, you do want to find the right cup size for your breasts (which, as mentioned above, will vary depending on the type and make), but it’s actually the band that’s the number one priority. The underwire, straps and cup size are not the true heroes when it comes to your bra. It’s a good idea to get measured by a professional on a regular basis.
Of course, there are many more things you should know about your bra (like how often to wash it and when it needs to be replaced). But these 4 bra myths need to be busted right away.
