Planning an office party to remember
End of year parties should be filled with celebration, not boredom.
Some may be celebrating that the year is over and that they can finally escape the office, while others are contemplating what they are going to do with their bonus. Whatever the reason, no one can deny that the atmosphere is filled with excitement.
Until Angela from Accounts decides that she will be managing the end of year festivities, while everyone knows that her idea of fun is watching Animal Planet. No one wants to attend a dull office party, but it shouldn’t be so outrageous that people can’t show their faces the following day.
It’s all in the planning
It’s very seldom that an office full of people become the best of friends who often visit each other’s homes. It’s not uncommon for people to come to work purely for the sake of coming to work. For this reason, colleagues don’t know each other on a personal level, they are more likely to talk to each other about work related matters – which is boring! Then there is also a feeling of obligation for colleagues to bond, it simply can’t be forced. But with good planning, any office party can be a fun event that bring people closer to the line of friendship.
Good food
If you have an office full of foodies then instruct everyone to bring their favourite dishes and let the foodfair begin. Cold meats, chocolates and a little bit of champers are always a winner and eating together is known to establish good relationships. Colleagues can also bring regional dishes, where they have to dress up as the people from that specific region.
Forget about the office
If the party is at the office then decorate it in such a way that it feels like you’re not in office anymore. Employees should forget about work and enjoy each other’s company. Seeing client files lying around is a constant reminder of outstanding work and no one can relax with that on their mind. If the budget allows, then take everyone out of the office and host the party at a hotel or choose from one of these interesting and different end of year function venues.
The point is for people to let down their hair and enjoy the moment. So, relax and have fun!
