It is common knowledge that Google regularly updates its’ “rules” for web developers to adhere to and very recently, Google launched one of its most feared algorithm updates. By already announcing this update in October 2014, unlike previous updates, we were able to judge how seriously this one would be taken. Google also issued a formal warning last month giving site owners time to deal with any problems which may ruin their rankings.
What did ShowMe do about it?
Good news is that all ShowMe clients can rest assured that their web presence is not only safe but will actually be enhanced by this update as we were ready for it and all our sites work well on mobile devises. There should therefore be no negative impacts.
Why is this happening?
Searches on mobile devices are growing exponentially at an alarmingly increased rate and therefore outdated websites that don’t display properly on small (although now much larger) screens will now be penalized.
In November 2014 Google made the following statement:
“We are also experimenting with using mobile-friendly criteria as a ranking signal”.
It clearly indicates that this is will now be one of Google’s key indicators as to whether to rank a website higher up the list or not. So not only is professional SEO becoming more and more essential but a sites responsiveness is now vital.
Webmasters were again warned in February 2015 with this statement:
“This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact on our search results”.
We at ShowMe saw this Google update as a serious indication and made sure that all our clients would be safe and even positively rewarded by the update.
On April 21st, the update finally went live and a series of tests on ShowMe listings and websites have confirmed that we are on top of our game. In addition, the mobile version of all our 25 ShowMe City websites across South Africa is very favourably rated by Google. This combined with our excellent content will ensure that we continue to have a major impact on search results.
This is the ShowMe difference – our customers can rest assured that their presence on the internet is ALWAYS taken care of by people who care!
