To Auld Lang Syne
Happy New Year
We have all sung Auld Lang Syne at some point, but most are not even aware what the song means or where it came from.
Well for those who have wondered, it’s an extremely old Scottish song that was first written in the 1700s. The transcription by Robert Burns has received the most attention and as such the song is associated with him.
The words “auld lang syne” is basically translated to “times gone by”
The song is therefore saying good bye to times past with fond memories and looking towards the future – hence always sung on New Year’s Eve.
