About Brits

Brits is a picturesque town with the Magaliesberg stretching past to the South and a number of “koppies” to the North. The bushveld like landscape ensure the area stays green all year round.

View Over Brits

Officially named in 1924 (although Brits has been around since the 1840’s), it is very well known for both its farming and industrial value, as well as historical happenings.

The town is surrounded by rich farmland fed by the crocodile river, which winds its way around the town. Although originally most farmers produced tobacco, they now supply largely wheat, maize and lucerne. There are also a number of game farms in area and some general livestock farmers.

The industrial area, once home to the Alpha Romeo factory, still houses the likes of Bosh, ATC, Kromberg & Schubert and Firestone, to name but a few. Brits falls within the Platinum Valley and many of its population are employed within the Chrome and Platinum industries.

Even though known as a small town, Brits has expanded over the years to a bustling business hub for many of the surrounding areas, including Hartbeespoort, Beestekraal, Mooi Nooi and a far afield as Thabazimbi. It is still however, referred to as “Ons ou dorpie” by many of the locals, and despite its growth it has maintained its small town friendliness and appeal.
