uShaka Sea World voted Durban’s Best Attraction
uShaka Marine World was proud to add the Durban Chamber of Commerce’s Tourism Award for the Best Attraction to its growing gallery of awards this month.
uShaka Marine world chief executive, Stella Khumalo, said that the award, which recognised the fifth largest aquarium in the world and the largest aquarium in Africa as Durban’s top attraction was testament to the hard work and the passion of the staff at both the South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR) of which Sea World is a division and uShaka Marine World as a whole.
The award was presented by Minister of Tourism, Mr Derek Hanekom. It was based on gradings by the independent Trip Adviser site on a particular day in November.
The value of this award hinges on the fact that, because it is based on the actual opinions of tourists visiting both the city and the park, it has exceptionally high credibility.
“Awards such as this show that, since the park opened in April 2004, we have succeeded in our endeavors to make it a world class destination for fun and an example for conservation,” Khumalo said.
Sea World comprises a fascinating array of underground viewing galleries that are home to 300 different species of marine life and 10 000 sea creatures. Each tank is meticulously designed around the themes of five different ship wrecks.
In addition to this week’s award, uShaka Marine World also netted the Lifestyle and Cultural Award and Marine Adventure Awards at the Lilizela Tourism Awards in September this year. uShaka was also voted number 1 Coolest place to Visit in the Generation Next survey over the past three years.
