Stage 4 Water Update – Reduce Consumption by 30%
Khosi Mathenjwa – Sembcorp Public Relations Officer
The recent rains has had a slightly positive impact on increasing the level of Hazelmere Dam to approximately 37%. Whilst this is positive news we have been informed by Umgeni Water that the probability for continued heavy rainfall in the next 3 months remains low. In order for us to prolong the storage at Hazelmere Dam we require all users to reduce their consumption by at least 30%. If this is done we will experience minimal interruptions to the water supply (these are based on statistics provided by Umgeni Water).
Many consumers have reduced their consumption and we wish to place on record our gratitude for your co-operation as well as your sense of responsibility in assisting to manage this situation. However many have actually increased their consumption which is rather disappointing and this contributes to our service area not meeting the required 30% reduction. In an effort to now try and achieve the 30% reduction we have updated the Stage 4 Restrictions.
So please continue to use this precious resource sparingly, we not out the woods yet.
