Umoya Pilates Studio in Salt Rock offers a fully equipped exercise facility within the relaxed beach village. Owner-instructor Karen Reilly has trained groups and individuals in the Joseph Pilates body conditioning technique since 2003.

After working closely with qualified physiotherapists and Pilates instructors at Mpumalanga Health and Fitness Centre in Nelspruit, Karen developed a love for working with clients who needed rehabilitation after surgery and injury, pre and postnatal ladies, performance athletes as well as clients who just needed to improve their general well being.

She now offers small group classes  and individual training sessions using the Cadillac and Pilates Reformer machines as well as various exercise accessories to enhance and modify each session. 

Leaner, Longer and Enhanced Sports Performance with Pilates

Pilates is a body conditioning workout that has its foundation on developing “core” strength and flexibility. In strengthening the body framework around the abdomen, the individual’s posture is quickly improved. Standing taller, holding the body framework more securely upright, a person appears leaner without effort.

“Core” strength also enhances sports performance. Umoya Pilates runs specialized classes for sportsmen, working on specific techniques to improve a Golf Swing, running style or surf maneuvers.

Pilates postures encourage flexibility; stretching and elongating the muscle shape rather than building bulk. Pilates will not help you lose weight, but by teaching muscles to remain ‘engaged’ throughout the day, the body shape does change. It appears leaner and by holding the neutral alignment a body should ideally have, painful conditions brought on by bad posture are eradicated.
