Student designers star at Young Designer Award
Five of Durban’s best fashion minds put their heads together to choose twenty-five young designers to proceed through to the semi-finals of the prestigious student designer competition.
Among the colourful and creative designs were ensembles inspired by classics like the Wizard of Oz and King Kong and everything from glitzy Bollywood to sophisticated Hollywood.
As the biggest student fashion competition of the country the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award is a huge platform for emerging designers and a stepping-stone into the flashing lights of SA fashion.
Invited Designer Casey Jeanne was one of the five judges and said that, “Among the vast ideas there were some brilliant designs. I definitely have some favourites! It‘s also really great to see young designers putting all this effort in.”
Out of one hundred and two young students that entered their garments only twenty-five young designers were chosen to go through to the next round of the judging, the semi-finals on June 13. The ultimate winner of the student designer competition will be crowned at the Vodacom Durban July at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday 5 July.
