KwaDukuza ready for another spectacular Mr Price Pro Ballito
It’s set to be a hot winter for KwaDukuza as the region welcomes the Mr Price Pro Ballito to its sunny shores. From June 30 to July 6 the world’s top surfers will battle it out in the world-class waves of Willards Beach at the ASP Prime rated Mr Price Pro Ballito. Last year over 100 000 people visited the surf, beach and lifestyle event and 2014 promises to be just as exhilarating both on and off the beach.
“The Mr Price Pro Ballito is a feature on the annual events calendar for the KwaDukuza region and we are looking forward to unpacking a bumper event for both our international and domestic visitors. The 2014 festival is set to showcase yet another action packed recreation and entertainment Programme, which will captivate a wide range of audiences from all walks of life. We are excited to welcome all, both young and old, in celebration of the very best we have to offer,” said KwaDukuza municipality events co-ordinator, Collette Bundy.
There will be no shortage of activities for holidaymakers as KwaDukuza offers a wide range of attractions from sunny beaches to outdoor activities. Added to the Mr Price Pro Ballito Festival Programme will be the annual Winter Fare programme running from June 26 to 29. In it’s 75th year the lifestyle event is a fundraiser for Child Welfare SA and attracts an incredible 50 000 people.
As the biggest beach festival in Africa the Mr Price Pro Ballito promises festivalgoers an impressive retail area plus a range of sporting and lifestyle activations. Apart from the exciting extreme sports showcases there will also be beach soccer and volleyball. Sports enthusiasts are in for a treat with the addition of the Golovane MTB Trail Race on July 4 with a short and long distance course to choose from. The kids can expect plenty of fun in the sun too with a kiddie’s corner, sandcastle building competition and a daily children’s programme.
The Food and Wine Festival returns to the Sporting & Lifestyle Event and promises as much flavour and punch as last year. Crowds can expect a delicious artisan Food and Beverage Market, a wine and coffee showcase and the return of the extremely popular chef competitions.
For many the Free Music Concerts at Salt Rock are the highlight of the surfing and lifestyle event. Some of South Africa’s biggest music acts will be taking to the stage on July 3 and 4 with big names like ISO and ChianoSky and DJ’s such as IScream and the Chocolate Stix and Locinville. Music lovers are in for a real treat with SAMA nominees Gangs of Ballet, Matthew Mole and Goodluck also performing. Matthew Mole made music history by becoming the first SA artist to top the South African iTunes album charts and Durban rockers Gangs of Ballet debut album yes/no/grey went number one on iTunes within twelve hours of its release.
With the arrival of the Mr Price Pro Ballito on KwaDukuza’s shores in 2009 the RedCap Foundation was chosen as the official Corporate Social Investment Project of the surfing and lifestyle event. With a mission to engage, enable and inspire South Africa’s youth the non-profit carries out invaluable work in the unemployment, education and health sectors in the low income communities of KwaDukuza.
