Jess Nicholson passes after Ballito Community rallies funds
Jessica Nicholson, wife of former Pro surfer Simon Nicholson, passed after long battle with a brain tumor.
It was just last weekend, 16th March, that the Ballito Community rallied at Rain Farm Lodge to raise funds for the family of Jess Nicholson, diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in February 2012.
Jess passed on the morning of Saturday, 22nd March. Mother of two children, Joel (5) and Amy (2), the family have been taken into the hearts and prayers of the Ballito community. Rain Farm Lodge, with the support of local businesses, created the fundraising event “Fish for Hope” held at Rain Farm Game Lodge on Sunday, 16th of March. Many were up at 06h00 in the morning in an effort to catch ‘the Biggest One’ – a catch, weigh and release competition to outsmart resident bass fish.
The fish proved smarter on the day, with few going for the bait, but the initiative did raise more than R 27,000 for the Nicholson family. Since diagnosis, medical bills mounted to reach R200 000 each month.
“I said goodbye to my soul mate this morning” reported Simon with a heavy heart. “I promised her I will raise our beautiful kids in a way that makes her proud. So lucky to have shared 17 years with you, my angel. What an adventure. I promise I will come find you. Thank you to everybody who supported us in the last year. We lived and have no regrets.”
Rest in Peace, Jess.
