Grand Opening of Hirsch’s 18th Store
The opening of Hirsch’s 18th store was a low key affair, a nostalgic return the the family owned business’s former location at 27 Umhlanga Rocks Drive, Durban North.
The latest Hirsch Store, the 18th in the family business, is without the normal large scale warehouse sized premises for which Hirsch has become synonymous. A visitor will not find ‘everything’ under one roof. But they will find the impeccable quality of goods for which the company is renowned and, as Margaret Hirsch insists, a return to the most superior level of services.
As we have done in our Cape Town store and in Gauteng, we will have a resident interior decorator to help customers with their choices, to put something together in the most stylish way.” Margaret Hirsch.
The premises of the ‘new’ store, are actually ‘old.’ Alan and Margaret Hirsch bought the building at 27 Umhlanga Rocks Drive for a mere R 20,000 many years ago. Back then, it was the site of their appliance repair and retail store, a satellite for their first branch at 169 Umhlanga Rocks Drive. Thirty years later, to the day, the family return to their origins with the latest concept of a smaller, more niche orientated home decor outlet.
Margaret concedes, she has no idea what people want, or indeed, what goes with what, but Alan has a keen instinct for what customers will buy. The addition of a resident interior decorator at the store will enhance a customer’s selection process.
Margaret, a passionate mentor for small business owners, says, “We want the interior decorator to be someone young, fresh out of design school, to bring those modern ideas to the store. We want to partner with her (or him) in a way that her business can grow from within Hirsch.”
HIrsch’s 19th store will be opening in Silver Lakes, Gauteng shortly.
