Durban – Turn up the Glam!
By Zama Mathe
Popular Durban designer Zama Mathe advises choosing an outfit that just oozes glamour when preparing for the biggest event on Durban’s social calendar, the Vodacom Durban July.
The creative genius behind Zarth Designs suggests fashion lovers should embrace good old Hollywood glam as the inspiration for their perfect race day ensemble.“Be it from the local film scene, Bollywood or the golden era of Hollywood cinema, glam is the way to go,” explained the bubbly Mathe. “And remember to spin your outfit with some of your own personal flair!”
A no-go zone to avoid at your own fashion risk is any outfit that revolves around, “Movie roles, superheroes or cliché characters like Cruella da Ville,” added Mathe. “Please do not be Marilyn Monroe, James Bond or James Dean!”
The self-taught Durban designer burst onto the fashion scene five years ago when her passion for fashion led her to change her career from banking to clothes.
The Vodacom Durban July holds a special place in Mathe’s heart as one of her proudest moments as a fashion designer was her debut as an Invited Designer at the Vodacom Durban July in 2012.
Clean, classic, current, chic and cosmopolitan,” are some of the design elements that guide Mathe’s creations and the Invited Designer promises to bring audiences up to speed with what’s trending in the world of fashion.
According to the free spirited designer, “Vanilla, fern green, teal blues and rusts,” are the colours for the 2014 winter season and some of her current favourite fabrics to play with are silk brocades and corded laces.
Other racing fashion tips from Mathe for the Vodacom Durban July include avoiding hot or synthetic fabrics and having a pair of flat shoes handy in case your feet just can’t take all the day’s excitement. But above all, “Be inspired and original and daring!” when choosing your race day outfit said Mathe. After all this is your moment in the spotlight!
The 2014 Vodacom Durban July will be staged at Greyville racecourse on Saturday 5 July 2014. More Fashion at the Vodacom July Fashion Preview Event.
