Diet Tips for Successful Weight Loss
A local Slimming and Beauty spa owner was once a hefty 110 kilograms. Consistent effort paid off. These are her tips to help you lose and maintain a healthy weight.

I used to weigh 110 kgs…it took me 8 months to lose 45 kgs and for 20 years I have managed my weight. I have fallen off the bus once or twice but I have simply got back on, taken control again and lost the few that made me feel unhealthy and self conscious. There is no easy, quick fix….so take your time, put plans and goals in place and enjoy your ride to a healthy happy and sexy new you!!!!
Handy Hints and Tips….
- Eat your meals on a side plate…cons your brain into thinking you are eating a full big meal.
- Drink a glass of water before and after your meals…gets rid of some of the 8 glasses you should be drinking daily and fills you up and therefore you eat less.
- Fill your fork with food, put it in your mouth and put your fork down while you chew…this forces you to eat slowly. Only pick your fork up when your mouth is empty.
- It takes at least 20 minutes for the brain to register that your tummy is full….never go back for seconds before the 20 minutes are up.
- Keep your metabolism up….on waking drink a glass of water. After your shower turn the tap to as cold as you can take it….especially on the back of your neck and your chest.
- Have a balanced breakfast within an hour after waking. Eat 5-6 small meals a day to keep your blood sugar stable.
- Have enough sleep….this stops insulin spikes and keeps you away from the fridge…
- Set small manageable goals of weight loss and when you reach them reward yourself….NOT with food, with a new top or pair of jeans….feels amazing to buy a size smaller in your favourite shop.
- Don’t stop going out for dinner or braais, just make healthy choices. High protein and low carb at night works for me….or balanced meals during the day and no carbs at night….and a glass of light wine won’t harm if you keep it tidy. Always have a bottle of water on the table to drink in between sips of wine. (This also helps with the morning after!)
