Cutting for Correction: Hair Styling to Face Shape
Professional Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist Roz Faber knows a thing or two about making the most of natural assets. Her contenders in the Miss South Africa and Miss World Pageants went on to win crowns. Faber now offers the same beauty edge for local Ballito women.

Professional Hair Stylist Roz Faber advises lighter streaks in the center fringe to disguise a ‘square’ forehead and hair on the jawline to shape an oval face from a ‘square.’
Returning from an intense weekend Hair Conference, Roz Faber is excited to implement new techniques learnt. “The latest effect is ‘strobing,’ thick dashes of highlights in the hair.” she says excitedly. “I’d like to try it on you..?”
Under the well experienced hands of one who has worked on South Africa’s most recognizable faces – who would argue? A wise person would do well to allow Faber to do what she does. Her professional experience exceeds most stylists in town.
Face Shape
Faber begins with a quick demonstration of how she works with a client’s natural bone structure. Analyzing a clients face shape, she cuts to create, as far as possible, the perfect oval. “What is considered ‘Beautiful’ in a face is one in which the features are evenly spaced with an ‘oval’ shape.” A good stylist attempts to create an oval effect using hair length, style and color to simulate that shape as near as possible.
Hair Colour
Faber is adamant hair colour should always compliment skin hue. A ‘pink’, ‘yellow’ or ‘blue’ skin tone determines whether a person will appear healthy and glowing or tired and washed out with certain tints.
Faber can quickly determine a person’s natural hue and will discuss colour option deeper and darker or lighter and more vibrant depending on natural hair tones and skin undertones.
Hair Texture
Charlotte Promnitz, has recently joined Fabers team and explains how different nationalities have very different hair follicle structure. Europeans and Asian have a round hair follicle. Africans have a flat hair follicle which is actually very fragile. Treatments on African hair have to be very carefully done to avoid hair breaking at the root. Hair style must take natural hair texture into serious consideration.
