All Aboard? Last Stop Umhlali – A Second Chance for Village.
The picturesque village train station has new life with a local business entrepreneur conducting the charming revamp. Cappuccino and Cake is now on the menu so you may linger longer…
Ballito resident Cindy Snodey has an eye for beautiful decor pieces – and the old Umhlali Village is now reaping the benefit. Snodey’s shop Naturally Living at Burnedale is an unmitigated success. Her selection of charming furniture pieces and bric-a-brac from various local and international suppliers finding the perfect expression in the child friendly destination.
Her second passion – “Second Chance” is equally successful. Having started in tiny premises near Coastal Farmers, Snodey quickly outgrew the store and the lawn – and any other corner she could find to showcase her rapidly turning stock of second hand furniture!
When the premises at the old Umhlali Train Station came available, Snodey did not hesitate. Armed with paint brushes and the woodworking skills of her partner, Second Chance moved in to its new home.
The charming facade of the Victorian Era station is the perfect backdrop to the selection of ‘previously loved’ pieces. The recent addition of a catering sized Cappuccino machine and freshly baked goods is the perfect touch for the growing audience of meandering treasure hunters who love to linger over beautiful pieces which change daily.
Snodey’s keen eye for what sells and adept skill at pricing in the right range assures her success.
Snodey is a bona fide ‘storage warlord’ (after the popular TV series Storage Wars). She is one of only a few registered second hand dealers with the licence to bid on the contents of old, forgotten storage containers. She never knows quite what she is going to get, and has stumbled on a few rare finds. One storage unit yielded countless boxes of old LP records – with many a collectors gem hidden in the dust.
Snodey has matched her innate talents and passion perfectly – and the flourishing gem growing in the old farm village benefits all.
